Our building is currently under construction, as is our website. We are opening on 2nd April 2024, so please pop in to see how we can help you to fuel, focus and connect for yourself.

Welcome

Another week of beautiful sunshine! Welcome back to our third newsletter – we've got plenty of exciting updates from your local Oakham café. Between launching our new menu, hosting some inspiring local leaders, and receiving a rather eye-catching orange delivery, it's been a busy week at The Hub and Spoke.

Café News

After weeks of planning and preparation, we launched our new menu on Monday 24th! The feedback has been fantastic. It's so wonderful to hear your reactions and see you enjoying our latest creations. Perfect timing for our new outdoor seating, which arrived just as the weather turned gorgeous. These bistro-style tables will be out Monday through Saturday, creating the perfect spot for iced coffees, lunches or catch-ups in the sunshine.

Our most exciting development is the upcoming deli! We're creating a selection of artisanal foods, local wines and our homemade treats that you can take home. We're particularly excited about featuring many of the ingredients we use in our café menu - giving you the chance to "try before you buy" and recreate some favourites at home.

Meeting Room Spotlight

We were also delighted to host Rutland Women in Leadership for their monthly meeting - wonderful to see our space bringing together such an inspiring group from our community.

We were delighted to host Rutland Women in Leadership this Thursday, featuring guest speaker Sarah Steele. The catering for this event was provided by the talented Tetiana Volyk from Dreams Come True Catering – her red velvet cake was absolutely incredible! We love supporting fellow small businesses, and Tetiana's work speaks for itself. You can find her details to the left if you'd like to check out her Facebook page.

An insight into The Rutland Women Women in Leadership - taken from the RWiL Facebook page.

“The aim of the events is to share ideas, insights and knowledge to develop existing leadership skills and ultimately, impact change for the members of the group. Moreover, being a leader can be an isolating experience, and therefore, Fiona has created RWiL to be a new community where members can feel supported, empowered and uplifted. In her role as a leadership coach, Fiona will run self-reflective coaching activities for members to provide time for quiet contemplation and self-reflection, and generally, to ‘take stock’ of what is currently happening in their businesses/ organisations to identify patterns and themes.”

Stay Well While You Work

Essential strategies for maintaining your health and productivity.

Working effectively doesn't mean sacrificing your wellbeing. These practical strategies will help you maintain both your performance and your health throughout your workday.

Fuel Your Brain Like It Matters (Because It Does)

Caffeine and adrenaline aren't a meal plan. Choose real, nourishing food that supports your brain, not just your to-do list - you'll think clearer and feel better.

Brain-boosting foods:

Blueberries - antioxidants for brain protection

  • Salmon - omega-3s for improved focus
  • Avocado - healthy fats for sustained energy
  • Quinoa - complex carbs for steady energy

Try combining these into a "superfood bowl" for lunch at The Hub and Spoke.

Move to Boost Your Mood

A short walk, stretch or cycle can reset your mindset and help ideas flow again. Motion shifts emotion - even 10 minutes helps.

  • Quick movement ideas: Walk between meetings
  • Stretch at your desk
  • Cycle to The Hub and Spoke for green tea - movement plus environment change

Change Your Scene, Find Your People

When you feel stuck or isolated, step into a new environment. A fresh space and the energy of others can restore focus and motivation fast.

Cafés are great spaces to meet other professionals and add variety to your week - they're networking hubs, not just coffee stops.

Practical applications:

  • Work from a local café occasionally to break routine
  • Seek out co-working spaces or libraries
  • Meet colleagues or clients in different locations
  • Join professional networking events in your area

Remember: Cafés aren't just for coffee - they're networking hubs where you can meet other professionals and add variety to your work week.

Protect Your Time and Take Real Breaks

Set clear working hours and honour them. Logging off at a set time and stepping away for real, intentional breaks helps prevent burnout and supports long-term focus.

Apps like Blitzit help manage time spent on tasks and integrate breaks into your day.

Practical strategies:

  • Set specific start and end times for your workday
  • Log off completely at your designated finish time
  • Schedule real breaks throughout the day (not just quick email checks)
  • Step away from your workspace for breaks - even a few minutes counts

Ready to Try These?

Pick one strategy that resonates with you and try it this week. Your wellbeing isn't separate from your work performance - it's the foundation that makes everything else possible.
